ICAgile Certifications Held:
Agile Coaching, Agile Team Facilitation
Brit Murray

Before completing her Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC) and Agile Team Facilitation (ICP-ATF) certifications, Brit Murray was inspired by the agile coaching experts in her local community. Fast-forward a year, and now she's one of them.

Starting her learning journey

In 2020, Brit Murray embarked upon the journey of a lifetime. An avid traveler and explorer, she set out on a journey of a different kind—a learning journey.

She’d recently joined the Nashville Agile Coaching Exchange (ACE) and couldn’t believe the level of coaching talent. Inspired and equipped with her CSM qualification, she looked for the next step to advance her career and seek a better way to serve her Scrum teams.

Seeking to advance her coaching nous, she enrolled in classes to earn ICAgile's Agile Coaching and Agile Team Facilitation certifications. “The Bootcamp was the next step for my career,” Brit explains. “Coaching was where I wanted to go, and there were new tools and techniques; I wanted to bolster my toolkit.”

SoftEd was recommended to Brit by the ACE community, and she wasn't disappointed. “My experience with SoftEd was fantastic. Everyone I engaged with was so supportive and gracious. They made me feel like I was the only student.”

The experiential learning environment suited Brit perfectly. She relished the opportunity to learn alongside the program’s coach cohort and gain insight from shared experiences and applied practice.

“The trainer was a high calibre coach who really modeled the behaviors I was seeking to apply.  She brought so much new knowledge and fresh ideas to try in a safe environment.  I appreciated the learning structure–there was plenty of time for reflection and collaboration and so much valuable material for me to take away. I continue to use the materials a year later.”

After completing both courses and gaining the ICP-ACC and ICP-ATF certifications, Brit recognizes ICAgile as an industry leader in agile qualifications.

“My favourite part of the experience was learning so many new things. I learned the difference between coaching, mentoring, facilitation, instrumental approaches to maturity models like Shu-Ha-Ri, and tools like the team canvas, constellations, and the coaching arc. I could have been in the job for ten years and not gained as much knowledge.”

Applying agility in a new role

Two weeks into her role as ScrumMaster for EviCore Healthcare, Brit is still applying her learnings, and she says it’s her new certifications that helped her secure the position.

“The certifications along with the deep domain expertise that comes with it were a requirement for the role. The certifications helped me to be at the right place at the right time. I’m able to serve my teams and the company in a new way.”

As well as growing her list of credentials, she’s also growing in confidence. Fulfilling her inner mission has both inspired her and reinforced her desire to be a coach. She is now bringing knowledge back to her team and advancing their capabilities.

Her advice to those considering certifications

“Do it. Do it. Do it—even if you have to pay for it yourself. You’re worth it, your teams deserve it, and you won’t regret it. You continue to get value from the investment long after the training.”

Brit now has her eyes on the ICAgile Certified Expert In Agile Coaching designation. Her journey continues.
